[Goblin] "Gives me the creeps, they do."
[Goblin] "Burbank will fix it."
[Goblin] "Yeah, Burbank fixes everything."
(laughing)

For the first time in several days, there is silence in the dungeons of Vardithran, the guards no longer molesting prisoners, playing dice, fighting, or even patrolling the corridor.

It is broken just a few moments later by the smashing of a door. Patrick and a few common villagers in the large cell at the end are privileged to see Thorgrim the dwarf smashing through his cell door for the third time in about as many days.

[Dwarven] "Mora-DIN! Curses, they've left skeletons... without orders?"
[Common] "Okay. Patrick, let's help you out first. The guards have left for some reason."

(GM: Actions, everyone. The skeletons aren't acting yet; I'll post initiative once they do. Suggest you try to break (Str DC 18), attack (Hardness 5, hp 15) or lockpick (DC 25) the doors. Those of you with Knowledge(Religion), roll to discover more about the skeletons.)

After beating on the door for a good half-minute, Thorn gathers her strength and batters it down with a terrific blow. Quickly rushing out into the corridor, she stops in her tracks and eyes the skeletons. "And what, pray tell, are those?"

DRAS

Eyes bloodshot and marked with bruises from the rough handling the prison guards administered to him, Dras did not look very pretty at the moment when the chance to escape occurred. He didn't feel like much, either, in constant low-grade head pain from sleep-deprivation; but most of all he was angry about what it meant - that he couldn't make a use of his magic to free himself and remind the warders exactly why mages were commonly feared. As it was, he was forced to use his strength (which he notably did not have much of) to aid his escape. When the ruckus started outside, he was already on it - having retrieved the knife hidden on his shin and cutting his bonds with it. Immediately thereafter, he sought to break down the wooden door. It would take a few minutes, maybe, but he wasn't going to rot there for the rest of his life! This was an opportunity, and he would seize it.

On the fifth try - he was free. Grinning like a madman, he picked himself off the floor opposite his cell and shook off the wooden splinters, wincing at his sore shoulder. "JAILBREAK!" he yelled, as it couldn't hurt now, what with the awful amount of noise coming from his prisonmates attempting to win their freedom much the same way he did. Then, he saw the skeletons, and froze momentarily, searching his aching mind for some sort of solution to this problem.

Bashing: ((4+13+16+8+6+19+17+14+10+4+10+11+16+8+9+12+14+9+12+6))
Knowledge (Religion): (18+6) = 24. (+5 if it pertains finding their weaknesses and such.)

Hearing the sudden absence of guards and the vast amount of noise being made, Vord figures that escaping now would be a fine plan indeed, especially considering the horrible treatment the more reality-agnostic prisoners seem to be getting. Bracing himself against the floor, he gives the door a few good kicks and watches in amazement as it gives way after only a few seconds of kicking. Getting up and stumbling out through the opening, he spots the skeletons and promptly takes cover behind his cell door.

"Everyone getting out without problems there? We seem to have some skeletons to deal with when you do."

((Second strength check did it. ))

Patrick, woken from his snoozing by Thorgrim and his noisy exit, stands up slowly and quietly, drawing a small roll of various picks and other tools not used by honest men, and, moving quickly, carefully attempts to pick the lock.

((Take 20 Open Lock, total of 31.))

Hearing Patrick's lockpicks go to work, Thorgrim grinned and turned to getting Valerie free. "You take your left side and I'll take mine. Kick off from the opposite wall." He braced against the door to the large holding cell and started smashing at the smaller door opposite. (Aid Another. Whoever rolls lowest is considered to be aiding.)
A frenzied discussion had begun going on in the large cell.
[Halfling:]
"They're breaking out!"
"Where have the guards gone?"
"Sounds like they're just that, gone."
"They'll come back. I'm sure."
"We can fight them."
"No way, there's too many of them!"
"How do you know that?"
"Better to die fighting than in this hole."
"Better still to live, I say."
"It's not as though we've ever seen more than about eight of them."
"That doesn't help. There must be three or four shifts plus leaders and some others."

Do any of you, in fact, speak Halfling?

Everyone: Two of the skeletons are larger than the other two. The big ones are wielding sword and shield, the small ones are wielding similarly-sized swords in both hands.
You recall a previous episode in which the guards brought a skeleton which told to "subdue the prisoners if they try anything" and had to be called off at once because one of the prisoners said "I'm trying to escape".
You don't know what these skeletons have been told, but it's certainly more restrictive.
Anno: Dras recognizes that the large skeletons are probably human, half-elven or elven, and the small ones are gnomes or goblins. They are probably under orders to attack if the prisoners attempt to climb the stairs. They are weak to anything which challenges their intelligence. They are usually resistant to their own type of weapon and arrows/spears. The skeletons have probably been given the same order and will act as a group.

(Edit: Forgot [] around Halfling.)

Chloe woke up.

After the last nights....events she was seriously pissed, her whole body ached, and she desperately felt the need to purify herself from this...filth.

The wild elf slowly got on her feet, checked the door, and upon hearing the ruckus some other cellmates were causing, presumably involved in a breakout, she decided to participate.

Whispering a short prayer to Ehlonna, asking the spirits for their strength, she slowly but surely pushed the door confining her cell open.

((I do not speak halfling. Elven and Common only. Sorry, I'll be forced to post less than usual, but still try to keep it 1/day. On in-game actions...Chloe takes 20 on the Strength check to bust the door open. Obviously.))

DRAS

"Hey!" Dras hollered at the people emerging from the cells down the cell block. He didn't see much, because of the odd angle and the skeletons in the way, but there was some movement, and he intended to gain his fellow escapees' attention, much like the psion from the cell next to his. "Anyone of you can turn or rebuke these piles of osteoporosis blocking our path?!"

((Doesn't look like anyone knows Halfling.))

"Sorry, can't turn the buggers myself!"

As the skeletons didn't seem to be doing much moving around, Vord takes his chance to go and help out, heading over to the gaggle of squeaky foreign voices.

"Anyone speak Common in here? Either way, let's get you out."

He sets about helping them out if that was enough to get them on track with the rest of the inmates.

DRAS

"Stay off the staircase!" shouted Dras after Vord. He, himself, would stay right where he was in case the skeletons did attack anything that came close, rather than anything that tried to ascend the stairs. "They're stupid, but they will kill you if they have orders to do so!"

[argument in Halfling]

From within the large cell, a voice is heard addressing the outside in Common: "Our consensus finds that we cannot support this. If you can get us weapons so that we can fight, we'll stand with you, but because of the children, we will not join in your unarmed revolt. Please leave our door on its hinges for now."

"All right. We'll be back if we find the time and weapons then."

Stalking off to help free the others, he talks to anyone who might listen.

"Any plans for getting past the skeletons? I'm not much of a warrior, and the inconsiderate treatment of us has left my other talents nearly useless. I can hold a club, though, if Thorgrim or someone else could dismantle one of the doors for the purpose."

DRAS

"If they're as shoddily made as they look, we can just whack 'em to pieces," Dras said from the other side of the block. "Don't bother with edged or stabbing," brief look at his own dagger, "implements. Use rocks or planks or whatever. They'll fight back, so we better bash 'em good as fast as we can, all at once."

Patrick, having picked the lock, rolls his tools back into a leather roll, then slides it into a hidden pouch inside his boots. Slow, he pushes the door open and looks around, studying Thorgrim.

"So, skeletons, eh?" asks Patrick, glancing at the four skeletons.

DRAS

"Yes, skeletons!" replied Dras, a bit irritably - though not entirely without reason for being irritable right now. "Grab a stone or stick and get ready to whack them."

Valerie

Valerie punches her fist through her door, then her other fist, and breaks out with a large splintering of wood. She grabs her dagger from where she had hidden it-Inside a boot. Looking at the rest of the escapees, and the skeletons, she smiles grimly, but remains mostly silent.

Whispering in case the skeletons are smart enough to pick up on their planning, Vord talks to the other escapees-to-be:

"If these skeletons really are that dumb, we could just throw rocks at them from one side. If they all come after, we'll circle around from the other side and get out. If one comes, it's easy prey. If they stay there we will eventually batter them to pieces. Sound like a plan to you?"

DRAS

"What?!" protested Dras. "There isn't ROOM for circling, if you've not noticed! Whoever's doing the throwing would soon be cut to shreds."

Chloe, having stemmed her cell's door open, slowly stepped out, still somewhat dizzy from the sheer amount of effort it had taken to break out of her room.

Upon seeing some others having escaped aswell, some eery skeletons guarding the stairs, and a still closed door where some discussion in an unknown language was taking place behind, Chloe cleared her thoughts and focused for a moment, scanning the vicinity for Spirits...she hadn't lost *all* of her powers, yet. And whenever skeletons were around, other undead might be aswell...

[fieldset=OOC]Use Detect Spirits and scan the surroundings for any fey, incorporeal undead, or elementals. Ready total defense action if an skelton approaches.[/fieldset]

Wincing at Dras' shouting, he continues.

"Well, more like lock themselves inside one of the less than broken doors, since someone seems to have a lockpick along, then following if the skeletons spread out to search or otherwise give room for it. It seems less suicidal than going up against four armed skeletons with only clubs and rocks at any rate."

DRAS

"What other choice do we have?" Dras asked rhetorically. "The only other option I see is having someone shout 'I'm trying to climb the stairs!!' and escaping while the skellies make mince meat out of the poor sod."

Valerie

"Or we could, hmm, gang up on the skeletons? Rush them, perhaps? Surely we can overpower them through sheer numbers," Valerie muses aloud, staring at the skeletons and gripping her dagger tightly--not her favoured weapon, by far, but it would do.

After helping Valerie smash her door rather quickly and roughly, Thorgrim helped Chloe break open hers in turn, while Patrick unlocked his with secret tools. The guards appeared to be trusting in the skeletons to keep the prisoners in line - something they were doing a fairly poor job of, as Vord had already snuck past them once.
"That's most of us." Thorgrim muttered. "Let's have a moment for proper introductions. Thorgrim Blacklock, formerly a minor noble, about a viscount or so, from Eastmount." He bows. "Though with the way it's going, it'll probably be Vemal's Westmount in a month. I second the notion of hitting the skeletons with doorboards and taking their weapons. Valerie, I don't suppose you have enough power in the Light to abjure them?"

(GM: Thrown rocks lying around deal damage like subdual sling bullets, (1d4, or 1d3 small), -4 to deal lethal. Improvised doorboard clubs deal damage as clubs (1d6, or 1d4 small) with a -4 penalty for being improvised weapons. Coordinate your attacks wisely.)

"Well, the whole thing could be handled bloodlessly if we can get the skeletons to rush the far door, get inside and close and lock it in their face while the others make a break for it. It has its risks, like the chance of not being able to close the door quickly enough, but so does fighting them head-on. Well, either way I doubt I'll be much use in a fight. I'm certainly not one of the three-four strongest who'll be able to fit in there to fight them."

"My name, insofar as it matters, is Vord. Suffice to say my talents at escaping will be greatly enhanced once I get my head cleared a bit.

Valerie

"Valerie Valk, but you may call me Val. Daughter of a merchant from Upper Wotton, left at a young age to pursue the path of the paladin. And, unfortunately, I can't do anything with these undead except smite them," Valerie says.
