both are correct.

and i would hope so, the donk only has 7500klms on it :p

seems two brands of filter and two different methods of manufacture / assembly.

the original filter is actually in two bits clipped together and the clips on the nozzle were weak enough that they wouldn't hold when lifting the filter body out..

new filter looks one piece or is glued and that doesn't look like it can occur..

and as for replacing the sump plug when you do an oil change...

every third time maybe replace the washer but replacing the plug is a total waste of time and money IMHO...

Dave,

when you had the bottom oil filter in the Caddy did it take longer for the oil pressure light to go out?
The reason I am asking this is because my oil filter did not drain until I lifted it slightly. The "stalk" has an "O" ring to stop it draining.
I will have a good look at the inside of the filter next time I do an oil change.

The drain plug is a money maker in my opinion. I have have reused mine without any problems.

Good news for you.
Enjoy driving the Caddy.
I am very pleased with ours and driving it on 100% Biodiesel.

It does on our 2007 VW Caddy.

I have chosen to ignore that.
Our Caddy purrs!
In Europe all Diesel engine run on 5% Biodiesel as it is law in most countries to have that Biodiesel in Diesel.
I make my own Biodiesel as a hobby and wash it properly.
Washing Biodiesel to remove chemicals is the big secret.

Good to see we are slowly getting into Biodiesel in Australia.
I believe Caltex makes their Biodiesel from animal fat.
Animal fat makes a good Biodiesel but has a high CFPP (Cold Filter Plugging Point).
I have made Biodiesel from animal fat but could not use it in the winter here in SA.
