After my Rubies helmet tutorial that has been well received at the JRS i have decided to do a weapons tutorial with my method. I delivered the blaster with the helmet at the same time to the same person and the reaction to the (resin) blaster has been kind of overwhelming.
Lady K has a blaster she gave me to work on so I will use it for this tutorial, but the method applies to all metallic props.
this is readily available from Arsenal Modelworks. The white resin is a quick set type, and when you have this much quick set resin it goes both ways, from being soft to quite hard, care is needed when using the mouse sander not to destroy detail. I have an hour into the sanding and problem elimination phase so far, another 90 minutes of file work to go to restore lost detail, bondo work and more sanding and then time to start drillin' and fillin'!

Small update today. I had figured around two and a half hours total bondo/ sanding work but I was off on that. Doesnt matter, it's done now and in primer stage. I drilled out the molded in screw heads for real screws (both to mount the scope and decorative in the handle). When i got done with all the prep work I laid on four heavy coats of Rustoleum heavy filler primer. The casting is kind of rough even after my efforts, so this will level it out when I sand it off tomorrow. I can also see the pinholes now , so I can attack them. THEN the fun starts when I begin my paint process. That's the real fun for me all the rest is just preliminaries.
I will be replacing the hand grip detail using a nail, one divot at a time....
