I found a Stickley Brothers mirror for sale and I wanted to get an idea if $235 is a good deal. It looks like there is a great range of prices on LiveAuctioneers, although most records are for another model. It seems like they are as low as $100 or so on up to $1600. The mirror has its original finish, but I think the hooks are replaced. Thoughts? I'm a sucker for tenons!
The table I have pictured is a mystery (and likely generic), but I wanted to see if anyone thinks it is anything. I don't have a JM Young catalog, and that was the only maker I could think that made a lot of later Mission items (this was a store table from post-1930).

Personally I would skip the mirror, regardless of price, unless you have 3 spare SB hooks around. The replaced hooks just kill it for me.
As far as the table, that may be hard to figure out. Others will likely have some ideas. |

Compared to Gus mirror prices, it looks like a decent deal to me and even better if you can ask for his best price, maybe 200, by saying you have to replace the hooks, and assuming you don't have to waste gas or pay shipping for it. It actuallly wouldn't be too hard to find suitable hooks - eBay has hundreds to look through, search "antique coat hooks" or "vintage coat hooks" and match as close as possible to known S Bros pieces. _________________

No shipping/tax/transport costs. He's willing to bring it with him to GPI next week as we both are going to be there. He doesn't know it's Stickley Brothers, so I likely have a little wiggle room on the final price.
I did find hooks on Ebay that are close to those shown on another Stickley Brothers piece shown on the Dalton's website here: http://www.daltons.com/othersold.html
It sounds like the jury is split on how good of a deal the mirror may be, so I'll have to be extra picky about the condition of the finish, etc. if I am going to buy. |
