I have an idea for a charity fund raiser (for lack of a better word) for the BABES to organize for NOLA Comic Con in May. IS anyone interested in helping me with it?

 while all those are tremendous ideas and not at all sexiest in any way..........none are even remotely close to what I have in mind. But, I like the way you think. ;-)
Now I feel like this will be a let down. 
What I had in mind was a DVD/Video game drive for Children's Hospital. I'd like to have a drive for donations of children's and young teen DVD movies and video games, either used or new. While this is not exactly a FUND raiser it is still of value and something of use to the hospital and the children that spend days or weeks in the hospital.
Star Garrison in Texas and Arkansas did this for All-Con and I thought we could do it as well.
What we need:
1. Contact Childrens Hospital and make arrangements with someone there. Find out what, if any, video game systems they have for the children to play and if they even have DVD players.
2. Fliers---I'd like to have some fliers customized with something Star Wars/501st/BABES/DVD. I don't have photo shop skills so we will need help with this.
3. Contact NOLA Comic Con to make arrangements and get permission to conduct the drive. Perhaps, have a separate table for it. If not, Gary said we can share a corner of the BAG fan table.
4. Delivering fliers to appropriate businesses in the area prior to the con so people will be aware and bring videos.
5. Contact local business for donations.
6. Donation letter for obtaining donations from businesses. Since it's going to Children's Hospital.....not the 501st......(that's very important) could it be considered a tax right off?
7. Distribution of fliers at NOLA Con, especially on Saturday so people can bring back their donation on Sunday.
8. Collection box/container. Something clever....giant Death Star to place the DVD's in?
So, while there is no nudity involved, there is plenty for everyone to do. I would like the BABES to head this up, but, we'll need everyone to pull off a successful drive.

Sounds like a great idea.
We actually just did this for the Cash America Troop a few weeks ago, wherein, we trooped and Cash America donated dvd's and video games to Children's Hospital. I'm not exactly sure how much was donated, but I believe that Gary and Keith were working on that, finding out what the kids at the hospital wanted, what gaming systems they had available to figure out what games they needed, etc.

...oddly enough, my twisted mind actually had an idea for a "rancor pit" dump...with a dunking booth!
Nerds would line up to drop a slave leia in a clear tub of water, but from what I understand now that I have become part of the slave leias is that they go "commando" occasionally, so maybe thats a bad idea. Bad idea for you guys, not the nerds...
On the real topic though, thats a good idea. I am sure I can get a BUNCH of comic book donations from people if you want to add that to the flier. Us nerds keep em even though we dont want them, but just cant throw them away!

comic book donations is a great idea, especially since this is a comic book convention. We can add that to the list!
I didn't realize that you had already done this. I had asked Gary if I could do this well over a month ago. Hope he didn't forget. If Children's Hospital in New Orleans doesn't need or want the donation, since it's already been done, I'm going to check with the hospitals in Baton Rouge. We don't want to duplicate what's already been done. :(

I'm sure any of the hospitals would welcome the donations, whether its already been done or not, but I dont know any of the details on what exactly was donated from the troop we did 2 weeks ago at Cash America. Keith and Gary would know.
Comic books would be really cool too. Setting up a collect box at the con is a good idea, and then it can be distributed to whomever wants or needs it.

I love the comic book idea. Not only does it get children reading, it also may create the next generation of comic book/sci fi fans. Sounds like a win win to me!!
Tim, can you also ask the comic book stores to put a few fliers on their counters about the dvd/game/comic drive? And then deliver the fliers when we get them ready, please?

Karen there's more than just Children's Hospital. Most hospitals have Children's wards and there are other organizations like Ronald McDaonald houses in Louisiana or Homes for battered women.
You may consider several places like this not just one.

Ok, Dave Strecker is in. He's going to be moving his whole shop around thi month, so expect a bunch from him. He is a good friend, I'd like to get a few more trooper at his shop for free comic book day if we can. I don't think we have any stormtroopers signed up yet.
Dave will of course put of flyers and accept donations at his shop. I will call Steve and Ronnie tonight.

That's a good idea, Jeff. Especially if we get duplicates of some movies. We can sort them and then distribute them to the different hospitals in the area. Might be fun to make a troop to deliver them.
Thanks, Tim. That's awesome! I'm sure we have enough troopers to split up on free comic book day and help out several of the stores. Most of them are pretty small and can't really hold a large group of us anyway.
Is anyone interested in designing a nice flier for this?
