Tordek's base, Impassible Mountains

It seems that your arrival here has generated quite a bit of interest. Dwarves of all ages are flocking from all over to see you. Looking around, it looks more like a temporary encampment than a military base. Buildings are rare, the only notables being what appears to be a barracks and what is obviously Tordek's living quarters and center of command. The rest are temporary houses and the like for the noncombatants, dwarves who have fled Doran's wrath to take shelter with Tordek. The people examine you with mixed emotions, ranging from bold displeasure to frightened curiosity.

The guards escort you up to the command center, occasionally checking to make sure you are keeping up. Once inside, you realize that despite the appearance of the rest of the encampment, this structure is meant to withstand a long struggle. Well crafted and well organized, the command center is a shining example of dwarven ingenuity. Guards constantly patrol the maze-like hallways and intersections, many of which look identical.

Eventually, you come to a door exactly like every other you have seen, and the guards knock. The door opens and the guards motion for you to enter. The door closes behind you as you walk in on a room whose main feature is a long table, most likely used for conferences. Two dwarves are sitting at the near end of the table facing you. Both wear the symbol of their clan, a bolt of lightning striking a shield.

The elder dwarf stands and bows to you. "Greetings. I am Tordek Thundershield. Thank you for answering my call for aid. It is a dark time for our race and it may become darker without your help."

Brottor
As you sit with your father in the Assembly Hall discussing tactics to thwart Doran, there is a knock on the door. Your father waves his hand and the door opens, revealing three travelers. They enter and look around, their eyes finally resting on your and your father. He stands and bows to them. "Greetings. I am Tordek Thundershield. Thank you for answering my call for aid. It is a dark time for our race and it may become darker without your help."

Armina was a slightly built woman, of black hair, eyes, and most items of clothing. She wore a breastplate, and there was a rapier at her hip. Saying nothing, she awaited for a response from their host.

Zorriste, currently clad in his finest armour (to make impressions), with a bastard sword sheathed at his belt and a heavy shield strapped to his back, glanced at the dwarves with his green eyes, his helmet underneath an arm, thus revealing his short, black hair, before nodding.

"Indeed. What has occured?" said Zorriste.

Tordek sighs heavily and begins to make his way around the table. "As you know, I faked my own death in the middle of a conflict that could very well shape the course of history for the whole continent. What you probably do not know is why. Why would I give Doran the chance to bring more supporters to his side when all signs pointed to us being able to make a stand? The answer, simply put, is we do not have the resources to keep this war going for very much longer. With Doran occupying the only safe ground route between the mountains, he has cut our lifeline. We are running out of food, weapons and troops. So, I faked my death, knowing full well that Doran would claim responsibility, and left my son Eberk to lead in my stead. This is where you come in."

He turns to what appears to be an axe leaned up against an irregularly shaped section of wall and nods his head. The wall lurches forward unexpectedly and a winged stone figure emerges, carrying the axe. It turns to you and nods its head. "This is Krahagga. He and my youngest son Brottor", he points to the dwarf still seated at the table, "will accompany you on this mission. The five of you will be taking an abandoned mine shaft towards Doran's headquarters in the heart of the mountains. There, you will, by any means necessary, find and kill Doran and end this conflict. Hopefully, he is overconfident now that he believes I am dead and will somehow leave himself susceptible to an attack by a small group." At this point, he has made his way completely around the table and now stands in front of you. You can see that he is an aging dwarf, well past his prime. His hair is stone gray, but his eyes shine with a youthful vigor that belies his age.

"Doran is no easy foe. You must be cautious at all times. I would go with you, but as you can see, I'm not as young as I once was." He chuckles slightly and turns to the table, retrieving a tome from the table. "This is all the information we have that could be any use to you at all, from maps to Doran's estimated troop count to what he likes to eat for breakfast. Everything is contained in here." He hands the book to one of you and continues talking. "Should you succeed, you will be heralded as heroes. You will undoubtedly save this continent from collapsing upon itself. And of course, you will be rewarded monetarily. So, have you changed your minds or will you still help us?"

Tordek shrugs. "We can't be certain. The tunnels haven't been used in quite some time. We do know that they go underneath his headquarters and come out on the far side. We believe that this side is less guarded, as it is built close to the wall of a cavern. As such, a large scale assault from the back would be futile, but you should be able to get in."

Tordek laughs. "To be honest, the keep was not designed with centaurs in mind. I was just describing your task to your teammates." Looking around, Enna sees two humans, a hooded drow, a gargolye and a dwarf. Tordek explains the mission to Enna.

Brottor stands up from his seat with a rather agitated look on his face. "They show no respect for my father, as i expected from outsiders." He turns around toward a guard and with a wave of his hand sends the guard towards the back of the room to gather his gear. Walking up next to his father Brottor firmly places his axe's handdle to the ground and standing tall to show even though Tordek faked his death, he is till the true king of the dwarven lands.

The guard bows, turns around and hustles to gather Brottor's equpiment. He returns quickly, carrying everything Brottor requested he be outfitted with.

"Now, unless you have any more questions or concerns, I think we should make our way to the mouth of the tunnel." Tordek waits to see if there are any objections.

"I see." said the armoured man "Well my name is Zorriste Dantemanne, but you may call me Zorriste. I am a philosopher above all things. But other than that I have mastered psionic potential and other, more proactive skills to meet or aid in my philosophies." the man's skin was well tanned from travel and the sun, with symettrical black and white tattoes on both sides of his face, meeting in the middle and trailing off down his neck to elsewhere, before he placed his green-plumed helmet back onto his head and tied it back on.

"Oh, and I almost forgot someone." he looks to his backpack and out of it floats a fist-sized yellow, many faceted crystal, which seems to speak or similar in a almost monotous voice "I am The Mind's Relief in the Contemplation of the World, or Relief. We should continue." before floating back into the backpack.

Tordek smiles. "Good. Well then, let's be off." Tordek opens the door and walks out. You follow him out of the keep and across a wooden bridge that spans a chasm roughly 60 feet across. After a 15 minute walk, you come to a set of steel doors set into the side of a cavern. Tordek reaches into a pouch and produces a large key, with which he proceeds to unlock the doors. They swing open and reveal a tunnel that extends as far as you can see.

He takes a torch and lights it, giving it to Brottor. "This tunnel will eventually take you to a cavern. We put a marker above the tunnel that will lead you to Doran. May Moradin watch over you."

Enna turns to the king and bows again, "And over you, your highness. We shall do our utmost."

He then turns and walks after the little drow, a lot more quietly than the heavy hooves might have implied.
