Yep, you heard it right. The "Imperial Funland Event" has been changed to the "Imperial Spaceport Event" starting in November of this year. As of two days ago, Funland Golf & Games is no more. The owners of Funland have sold the business to a church and closed the doors on Funland for good. Because of this tragic news, I was forced to relocate the event to "Spaceport". I spoke with Eric the owner of "Spaceport" and he is excited about us do a yearly event at his place. As most of you know, his business is a complete indoor facility, which means we will be inside and out of the heat. I looked over my calender with Eric, and have decided to have the event on November 15, 2009 from 12:00pm till 5:00pm. We decided to do it at 12pm, because the church across the street will be finished and the parking lot should be clear before the event begins. We also decided to shorten the event to 5 hours, so everyone in costume will have time to get out of their costumes and make the drive home at a reasonable time since most everyone will be working the following morning. All we need to do now as a Garrison, is decide on what charity we want to raise the money for. Lets start on a list of charities and then have a Garrison wide vote. I would like to start off the list by nominating the "Make-A-Wish" foundation.

I would second the Make A Wish foundation. Also I like the move to the Spaceport, even if it is a somehwat smaller facility.

Space Port is nice. I am sorry to hear about Funland. I hope this means that Space Port will survive.
I would like to nominate Children's Hospital.

If you get the chance, you need to check out the updates I made to the Imperial Funland Event website. I changed everything to reflect the new event, but the domain name unfortunately could not be changed. It is still a work in progress and the prices for the event may change. As I make changes to the website, I will update the site to reflect those changes.

By the way I was thinking on putting together a committee to help with this years event. If anyone is interested in helping out, please let me know. I could also use your help too Eric, if you have the time to assist me with this. I know you may have some contacts that can help get the word out about this years event. Thanks!

I guess not eveyone is checking the boards on a regular basis anymore. Are there any other nominations for charities before I start a poll. Please get on here and let me know. I am also still going to need people to help organize this event. My time is limited and this event will be just as big if not bigger than last years event. I would like to have someone on the southshore and northshore that can help with gathering donations for this event. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

As I mentioned in the post regarding the poll we took, it looks like Children's Hospital will be this recipient.

There is one problem with the date for this. The Saints play the Rams at noon. It is an away game, but still a distraction for some. Last year we were scheduled on a BYE week. This year the Saints BYE week is 10/11/09.
This is also close to Christmas.
It is still early so we can consider a change of date.

The annual Red Stick Rebellion Costume Fan Day, which many of us participate in is 10/10/09. Just thought I'd throw that in for consideration if a date change is possible. :)
I guess we could still do both, one Sat and the other Sun, but it makes for a busy weekend.

What? Funland is closed? That's sad...I worked there for 10 years, and I'm still good friends with some of the managers. Nobody told me they were going under.

Ok folks, Novemeber is only a few months away. I need help with collecting donations for this event. If anyone is willing to help with this, please let me know.
It would be nice to have people go to their local stores and restaurants and help to collect coupons and gift cards and other items for the raffles and auctions. If you have any friends in the legion that are willing to part with some Star Wars goodies, that would be good too.
As for large auction items, I need to see if I can get another autographed football or a jersey from the Saints.
Any help with organizing this years event would be greatly appreciated. Remember, we are helping to raise money for Children's Hospital at this years event. I also need help with collecting funds to have t-shirts made again for this years event. If anyone wants to take the reigns with the t-shirts, I could definately use the help. Again, I want to thank everyone in advance for anything they can do to help with this fundraiser.
