I guess any courses in the nearby vicinity that aren't talked about often can go here. I travel a lot through VA, NC, WV, OH, PA, and sometimes SC so I figured why not.
It's always sad when I can't make it out to a weekly, but this week was special. I was down in Charlotte, NC home of the lovely Renaissance Park Pro Course (which certainly lived up to the infamy my friend from Charlotte had spoke of). I got there around 12:30 and didn't leave until about 5:30. I played 3 rounds... 2 from the Original course and one from the gold course.
I think it's a good course, but DEFINITELY challenging. There's something about throwing tough 300+ ft par threes for an entire front nine with interesting basket positions (over ravines, on top of boulders, etc). I don't know if you any of you guys have played this course, but I would definitely deem it one of my favorites now. I came away from it with the same attitude as EC has been lately of "next time I just a little bit more this way and I think I can hit that gap"
scores:
Original 1:
F: 3 4 3 4 4 5 2 4 3 - B: 2 5 5 6 6 3 5 5 6 - 75 (+17)
Original 2:
F: 3 3 3 3 3 3 5 4 2 - B: 4 4 5 5 5 3 3 5 5 - 68 (+10)
Gold:
F: 4 5 5 6 4 4 5 3 3 - B: 4 6 4 7 6 3 3 5 7 - 83 (+13) |

| I played Renny Gold in 2005. It was a tournament, two rounds from golds in triple digit weather. It sucked big time, two of the longest rounds I've ever played. Shot 88 and 92. |

| On the way back from the Lakefront. KP and I stopped at Walrond Park, just to stretch our legs and try someplace new. Beautiful setting, almost entirely open, lots of elevation. Only 9 holes, but blue and white tees for all. Jfarm showed up for the blue round, and we had a good time. The unseen factor is wind- I expect it blows a gale there, most of the time, and it really will jerk a drive around. Makes putting an adventure, too. It's close to the interstate, easy to find, and well worth a look, if you're in the area. |

I've played Goldenrod DGC in Davison, Michigan. It is similar to Elk Creek. The big differences are that the baskets are less protected by trees and there is water in play on a couple holes.
I've played it in both good weather and snow. Snow was fun, it made it very hard to find your disc when it when it went into 6+ inches of snow. After the first hole we had someone run out and be a spotter. It was so cold the ponds were frozen.....one person went out and got their disc off of the frozen water! _________________ Fear the Roadrunner!

Hey fellas,
I don't have any plans for this weekend, anybody feel like playing a few rounds out at Appomattox or doing a short roadtrip?? Walnut Creek, Golden Hills or Ballou park (Danville) are all decent options a short trip away. Let me know what you think, I bring gas money, drinks and snacks!!!
Later

Me and some guys from work got our weekend on early and went up to Walnut Creek this afternoon. It was everybody's first time on the course, except me. They all liked it a lot. The first round, I shot a 68. Other scores were 68, 72, & 72. Second round I shot a 69 and their scores were 65, 70, & 71. Unfortunately, I lost my favorite driver, a Z Flash on 5. Not even in the water.
The course looks great. The tees are much better on the typically worst when it's soggy. |

Hey Guys,
Let me know what the plan is, if any. Danville sounds good, I can leave anytime Sunday, just let me know when/where. If not see Bob and crew for the regular Sunday round at Peaksview.
