G'day,
I have just had a test drive of a 1.6 litre (TDI250) Caddy Maxi Life and was very impressed with it. I did go to the test drive firmly wanting the 2.0 litre (TDI320) engine, but now am in two minds.
I know it is unwise to compare engine specifications totally, but my current vehicle (Hiace SBV) has a 2.4 litre petrol engine. It has around 220 Nm of torque at around 3800 rpm. This needs to be read with some caution as the torque value achieved is with a wide open throttle, and there is no way I have ever done that. at the most, I have driven it at just over 3000 rpm and then with very partial throttle.
The TDI250 has 250 Nm of torque at around 1500 rpm, so it is more likely that that torque is being achieved.
It is unwise to over-think these things, but just wanted some other opinions on this choice. I also know that if I go for the smaller engine I will kick myself every time it struggles even a little bit.
I have had to compromise on colour because anything other than white is on a 4.5 month special order. This goes for any of the optional colours.
Any thoughts. |

What are going to do with the Caddy?
Will you be towing anything?
I have the 1.9 L TDI and I am very pleased with it. _________________ Regards,

In the main, it will be carrying one or two people. There are reasons for me going for the Caddy Maxi Life, and they are not because I would be carrying 7 people most of the time.
Essentially, I have a 91 year old mother who was finding it increasingly difficult to get into and out of my Hiace van, even with a series of gentle steps. The Caddy should be a lot easier to get into and out of. I am a Consulting Engineer, and I have the need to carry bulky parts from time to time. These are not dirty or heavy items, just bulky enough to be a problem in a standard wagon. Again, this is not being done every day, but if I cannot get them back to the office for measuring etc., I don't get the work.
I should say that I have ordered one with a TDI250 after test driving 3 different vehicles. I have also spoken to a number of colleagues who have had them and they said that the TDI250 should be more than adequate. Also, comparing the performance against that of my Hiace, I do not believe there should be an issue.
Now it is the nail biting wait to get the call to say it is ready. Fingers (and many other things) crossed, it should be ready sometime next week. It will then get a good run as I drive from Sydney to Bendigo for my mother's 91st birthday in the first week in August. |

Good choice. I am in a similar situation as my wife is not well. I bought the Caddy Van in case I had to carry a wheel chair.
It turned out to be a great vehicle. _________________ Regards,
