Kaasunporaus aktiviteetti on laskenut merkittävästi Yhdysvalloissa verrattuna viime vuoteen:, viime viikolla yli 200(~20%) aktiivista kaasu-rigiä vähemmän kuin vuosi sitten, mutta pääasiassa öljyä poraavia rigejä täsmälleen sama määrä kuin vuosi sitten. Poraussopimuksia alkaa päättymään ja matalat hinnat alkavat purra tuottajiin rajusti: viime viikolla poraajien määrä putosi >50, kun aiemmat viikottaiset pudotukset ovat olleet 20-30.

Cantarellin tuotanto laskee reilun 200 000 tynnyrin vuosivauhdilla, jos tuo tuotannon menetys pitäisi korvata pelkästään Chincotepecin tuotannolla pitäisi porata n. 7000 uutta kaivoa joka vuosi.
Meksiko joutuu aloittamaan massiiviset panostukset syvän öljyn etsintään ja tuotantoon lähitulevaisuudessa. Pemexillä on muistaakseni kolme deep water semiä käytössä, veikkaisin että tuo määrä kolmikertaistuu seuraavan vuosikymmen aikana.

FP: Long term, oil market looks scary
| Lainaus: | It seems likely that the world needs US$75 to US$100 per barrel oil to encourage long term supply. In fact, the long-term outlook for oil prices argues only for more gains based on emerging market demand growth and depletion rates for oil production.
The long term is soon upon us according to a detailed report on the oil market by McKinsey and Company that contemplates a return to tightness as early as 2010. Given the current economic headwinds, that outcome seems highly unlikely.
Each year, the equivalent of Iran's production capacity-- 4.2-million barrels per day -- will be needed to stabilize current output, based on gross declines from 2004 to 2008, according the McKinsey report. The economic recession took the heat off, for now, but will only serve to exacerbate the problem further out.
Still, there is the small matter of the worst post war economic recession to deal with. Contemplating a demand recovery by 2010 -- McKinsey's moderate scenario - appears highly unrealistic. The "severe" scenario -- a 12.3% cumulative loss of GDP growth from trend - is a glove that seems a better fit to the current situation.
In the mean time, OPEC has tightened the taps, and spare capacity is the beneficiary-- set to reach levels of over 6-million barrels per day a cushion not seen since the late 1980s.
Investors with long investing horizons can start buying oil stocks in anticipation of an eventual rebound in demand and tighter oil markets. However, given the severity of the current economic recession, we are still years away from a sustained and meaningful recovery.

Sen mukaan Britannian talous supistui 1,5 prosenttia ensimmäisellä neljänneksellä. Viime vuoden viimeisellä neljänneksellä maan talous kutistui 1,6 prosenttia.

The secretive world of Middle East oil deals will be thrown open in Baghdad next week when a contract auction is broadcast live, shining a spotlight on big oil dealmakers that prefer to stay behind the scenes.
"This is shaping up to be unlike anything I have ever been involved in," said one senior executive for a major western oil company to Reuters.
"It is quite unique and will be some theatre. I don't think any of us really know how this is going to work out."
Bids for contracts for six of Iraq's largest oilfields and two untapped gas fields will be opened in front of the cameras and the world's media on 29 June to 30 June in Baghdad. The bids will be compared and contracts awarded there and then.
After the first contract is awarded, competing companies would have a chance to go back and revise the terms of their next bid.
That is where the process could come to resemble a live TV game show... |

Russian Energy Strategy and Tactics
Russia's energy strategy seeks to make Europe increasingly dependent on Russian oil and gas. The Kremlin has advanced this strategy through a series of policies. It creates dependency by locking in demand with energy importers, consolidating the supply of oil and gas by signing long-term contracts with Central Asian energy producers, and securing control of strategic energy infrastructure in Europe and Eurasia. This includes extending the Gazprom monopoly and attempting to create an OPEC-style gas cartel. At the August 2007 summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the presidents of Kazakhstan and Russia called for establishment of an "Asian energy club" to expand energy ties among the member states, including creation of a unified energy infrastructure to serve as the basis for a common energy market. |

Gazprom stirs racism talk with new venture
FSN:ssä oli viime viikonloppuna CIBC:n entisen pääekonomistin Jeff Rubinin haastattelu(mp3) peak oiliin liittyen. Rubin ei ole mikään hörhö ja haastettelu on kuuntelun arvoinen. Rubin puheli peakista melko usein vielä entisessä työpaikassaan ja on sitä mieltä että laman takana on juuri öljy.

Mexico’s crude oil output took another significant decrease last month. That countries oil production dropped to 2.6 million barrels per day. This is the lowest level that country has produced since 1990.
The state run oil company, Pemex, blames the drop on field maintenance and the continuing decline from its once famous Cantarell field. Production from that field dropped by 37% in the last twelve months.
Mexico’s state run oil company is remaining optimistic that it can increase its oil production by the end of this year. Company officials state that they have already implemented a very aggressive oil exploration and drilling program at Chicotepec.
Pemex has sighted in drilling one thousand oil wells in that region this year and hopes to have them on production before the year end. Output from these new wells is expected to exceed an additional 70,000 barrels of crude.
Mexico is hopeful that legislated changes in its oil industry, which is now promoting more private enterprise initiative, will help resolve its difficulties in replenishing it rapidly depleting oil reserves. Future hopes are set on making a new oil discovery in the deep waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
Mexico’s economy is mostly driven by oil revenue and U.S. has been its single largest customer. Both nations will suffer should Mexico’s oil output continue to diminish". |
