Hello! My name is Matt Knuth, and I moved into the New Orleans area about a year ago from way up north. I have been between hobbies for a while now, but the idea to start this one snuck up on me after Comic Con and doesn't seem to be going away.
Fortunately I managed to notice a lot of the reviews posted by different 501st units before I went out and tried to buy a costume instead of building one. I am on board for assembling it myself, but I am definitely going to need some advice on where to pick up parts. I managed to find sources for the squishy bits, but I haven't gone in for the plates yet. I have put together costumes in the past, but nothing along any sort of guidelines.
I am interested in putting together a stock TK set, at least to start off with. Probably the ANH pattern for simplicity. I would love to do a sandtrooper at some point, but it seems like it would be better to begin with the classic. Any recommendations in terms of where to start?

For the record, there are at least 3 people working towards doing sandtrooper costumes on top of the 4 (isnt old sarge a TD??) we have now. That would be an awesome presence any time we all suited up!

Vader 1 aka Gary and Waldo Kent aka Jeff Kent are the best advice givers in building TK's. Jeff has helped me several times and Gary is is our Garrison CO and he knows his stuff about many different costumes not only SW.

Thanks for the welcome!
Talking to tupperwaretk now. Sounds like that kit has the parts for both designs. I wouldn't mind starting off with the sandtrooper, particularly if there are a lot of folks working on them. I will check in with you guys before I do too much with the additional bits for that setup.

Welcome! My best advice is to read as much as you can. mepd.net and whitearmor.net are great resources as someone stated above. Dont be afraid to ask questions. Everyone in this garrison is so knowledgable. Good luck!

Big box came in today!
Have to make a trip out to the hardware store this weekend. I need to read through the instructions a few more times anyway. The Pandatrooper thread on White Armor is very good. I am definitely going to build this set as a sandtrooper, though, and tthen decide on doing a stock TK at some later date.
