had a great time at the event today and got my Vader bear. Joseph got a Buzz Lightyear and Claire got a Princess Leia. I got to take tons of pics and shake hands and make people both smile and cry so it was a good event, even after getting in trouble from that kiosk owner across the way from BaB....
I look forward to seeing pics!!

some people just dont appreciate free foot traffic.
Instead of cashing in on it, they griped.

Although we did have a good time at Lakeside and I'm glad I was able to attend at the last minute but I do have some personal thoughts.
We were told when we arrived, that the store received a memo that there were to be no weapons used other than a light saber. I talked the manager into allowing me to put my blaster in my holster. Sandy was told she could not use her blaster even though it was slipped into her belt.
I noticed the members in Baton Rouge all had their weapons. I'm just guessing this memo came from the store owner from lakeside. I also could not help notice that the Han Solo costume for a bear that we were asked to help produce had a blaster. This sort of pissed me off. Don't ask me to come as a storm trooper that I put a lot of work into to be "movie accurate" and then tell me once I get there, I can't display my blaster. If a Star Wars character has a weapon or anything else that makes it a character, it's not up to a private business owner to alter something that should be Canon. Members volunteered personal time time to help promote the love of Star Wars and put money in someone else's pocket.
Now that I have vented, Here is my suggestion.
If someone makes a request for our appearance, any special request or requirements should be stated before we agree to attend.
But personally I feel that if that happens to me again I will offer an option. You get the whole trooper or no trooper. Same goes for conventions. Just my thought.

as unfortunate as that is, it dos happen. I have seen photos of troops where costumers had no less than 18 inches of orange flagging tape tied to the ends of thier weapons. Legion boards have the full discussion of the Danish Garrison having weapons impounded by the Police during a troop.
I have asked in the past if we needed any special accomodation to get our weapons into troops but in my experience here it was not needed. I did hear that a security officer was dispatched to check us out ver early on but I never saw or heard an of that. The only isssue we did have was the massage kiosk wasnt happy with us being in "the zone" . We were doing more to gain foot traffic then they were.
Unfortunate, but I can certainly see your point on this Jeff.

Thanks to everyone who trooped this I wish i didn't have to work this day. Please let me know about the donation so I can include info on my RL mission report.
Outside of that I'd like to remind RL members here as well:

These appearance requirements apply to RL members too. We worked too hard to get our standards up to par with the 501st. I don't want to see us fall back into the era of bathrobe jedi and second rate costumes. In the future, if a troop calls for 100% canon costumes, please make sure they are approved ahead of time.
We have other high profile, LFL related events coming up and we all need to put our best foot forward on their event invites.
Thanks

It was a very fun troop at Lakeside mall and i enjoyed everyone's company. And about the blaster issue, i can understand if they do not want us pointing blasters or weapons at people at events, as this may scare or alarm civilians that do not know what we do or what we are about. If the weapon is holstered or secured in your belt and is not in your hands, then i feel that is acceptable. I agree that the no weapons rule should have been disclosed before we arrived with full canon costumes and the canon weapons that go along with them. i was proud to wear my freshly approved costume for its first canon troop and yes i was a little disappointed that i couldnt have my droid blaster with me, but it wasnt that big of a deal and i kept it in the back until i left and it was fully hidden inside of a bag for transporting it around otherwise.
Everyone looked great and we got some nice photos out of it. The staff was very nice and thankful for our support and help. I got a Princess Leia bear for myself.
