So let's discuss who not to take in our playoff pools.
Marek Svatos is obvious, gone for the season.
Corey Perry - I'm hearing he could return sometime towards the end of the first round, maybe the second, depending on his progress.
Is he worth taking? I always find I don't take these guys and they miraculously recover for the first or second game of the first round, after all it is the playoffs and guys play hurt.
Who else is on the hobble right now that may not be back for the start of the first round?

Haven't heard a lot about Montreal...
but Koivu would be uncertain for me...how's Komisarek holding up? |

Good point,
Not alot will be known about Koivu untill all the testing is done by tomorrow apparently. The broken bone in his foot will all depend on how much pressure he can put on it to skate. They will definitely need him if they want to advance far, I think they can handle the first round without him.
Everything I'm reading says Komisarek is back on the ice in practice and will be ready to go for the playoffs. |

Also,
If their teams make it, Brendan Morrison is gone for the year
Patrice Bergeron hopes to be able to play sometime in the playoffs if the Bruins make it that far
and Derian Hatcher probably wouldn't return for the Flyers till the 2nd round, if they make it that far.

One we forgot,
Of course there's Rod Brind'Amour. He won't be ready till September training camp. I don't believe the Canes can win the Cup without him this year. |

also...
Marc Savard if Boston makes it...broken bone in his back...
Zubov should miss a bit of the playoffs for Dallas...
Also, I think if Gary Roberts is back for the playoffs, Pittsburgh in my mind definitely becomes the favourite in the east...he will add more grittiness and playoff experience |

There's always next year Wrigs, motto of us Leaf fans.
Buffalo has a great young nucleus, if they don't let them all walk at some point.
Marc Savard will be a huge loss for Boston, tough to win a series without him, unless Tim Thomas stands on his head against
Pittsburgh or Montreal.

I'm also hearing Tomas Holmstrom may not be able to go right
away for Detroit, may miss the whole first round.
Huge loss for them, constant overachiever in the post season.

Also,
Rhett Warrener, Simon Gagne, Chris Clark and Michael Nylander appear to be all out till next seaon.
Not much of a chance of any of these 4 coming back to play
in the playoffs.

Ottawa captain Daniel Alfreddson took a hit to the head from Toronto's Mark Bell on Thursday night.
It looks like he won't play in Ottawa's season finale on Friday.
The team is expected to provide an update on Alfreddson's condition on Friday.
This one is definately worth watching.
Here's the game write-up which largely focuses on Alfredsson's injury:

Mike Fisher of the Senators was also injured (knee) in this game. |

So,
Can the Senators win even the first round series against
anyone without Alfredsson and Fisher?
I doubt it unless Gerber or Emery catches fire.

| Detroit left winger Tomas Kopecky will miss the playoffs with a knee injury. Kopecky tore his ACL and sprained his MCL the other night against Columbus. He's not a big name player but was playing a greater role with the Red Wings recently. |

An update from tsn.ca:
"Dallas Stars defenceman Sergei Zubov had surgery this week in Berlin on a sports hernia injury, leaving his status unclear as the team prepares to face Anaheim in the playoffs." |
